my son's friend brought this praying mantis over to the house..
he said it is pregnant. how can you tell, other than the swollen underbelly?

The rabbit died?

okay, it has been awhile..what rabbit?
You can tell because that time of year and at that size it has to be a female.
The males don't grow as big as the females. A couple of months prior to this photo the female would have mated and then eaten the male.
All the praying mantis's you see in September are pregnant females about ready to lay eggs.
