whew!

we had a great trip to IL....I took many more but here are a few to share what we did. the first one is a photo taken with the self timer on my camera....we are wearing 3D glasses. my niece's school offered to have an entire theater to ourselves as long as we had 100 people to see BOLT. it was a great movie! I recommend you go and see it, young and old.

the next day, we went downtown to visit The Art Institute of Chicago®

there was an entire section devoted to miniature rooms.

below is the inside of a mini cathedral.

below: Nighthawks by Edward Hopper

below: sorry!, can't remember the name but thought it was amazing.

Paris Street; Rainy Day by Gustave Caillebotte

American Gothic by Grant Wood

below is a photograph when we left and headed to a great pizza place called....

I was disappointed, however, that we were unable to view any Van Gogh or Monet, two of my favorites. my son also had hoped to see Andy Warhol works as he had just studied him in his art class. the impressionism wing and modern art portion were not open to the public at this time.
and last but certainly not least, the hallow cavity of our turkey after the stuffing was removed.

what did you do this holiday?

a walk

the kids and I took a walk today. they had early dismissal from school so we took advantage of the temps in the 50's. there they are...both on vehicles which they have out grown...my son on a bike with training wheels? my daughter on a big wheel? come on, kids!

137 East Main

when i was home for my high school reunion this summer, i drove by the house i lived in from the time i was two until i was in 7th grade....how old are you in that grade? 12? 13? when i was younger, the yard was huge! now, not so much. it looks small. there on the corner, where that bush is? there used to be a giant tree. it had a hole in it....apparently when it was cut down, many, many newspapers were found inside of it.
i loved this house. i would give almost anything to see the inside. almost anything.

a walk

my family went on a walk the other day in honor of my Grandma....you can read more about it here....I had brought the camera with and here are a few shots...the above is without flash and below, with. I have an option on my camera that will take back to back photos, first in natural light and then with a flash.

we have an active railway in town, too. the first is a look facing north.

then a view facing south....I just wish that car wasn't there. my ten year old son even pointed it out before the words came out of my mouth.

then I just placed my camera on the rail and pushed the shutter button.
